Fellow students, you don’t want to get sick this year. Missing school is challenging, and your grades could be affected. You have makeup notes, work, tests, and even makeup runs. Coming back to school after missing a couple of days is as stressful as being sick! With flu season just around the corner, it’s important to keep yourself and others as healthy and sanitary as possible. No one wants to be sick! To decrease your chances of catching a cold or fighting a flu, follow these tips and tricks.
- FLU VACCINE
Flu vaccines may not be 100% effective, but they are an easy way to prevent the flu. Studies have shown that they decrease your risk by around 80%. Nasal sprays and shots are now available at drug and grocery stores for your use. Call your doctor, and make an appointment!
- WASH YOUR HANDS
This is an obvious one, and even when it’s not flu season you should still do this, before touching your face, food, or anything really to prevent the spreading of germs. Washing your hands with warm water and soap for a minute? Easiest way to prevent germs from spreading.
- DISINFECTING
No matter how clean you think your countertops are, they probably are covered in germs. Same with shopping carts and door handles. After using something or right before use(especially if something is going to touch your face) be sure to clean it.
- DON’T SHARE
This even goes for you and your family. Sharing cups, utensils, even phones can increase your risk of getting the flu.
- DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS, EAT HEALTHY FOODS, SLEEP, EXERCISE
Strive to drink at least 8 cups a day(water, not caffeine). Better health practices result in strengthening your immune system, helping it to fight off germs. (These also help you lose weight, so win-win.)
- CHILL OUT
This one may seem funny, but being stressed out weakens your immune system, increasing your chances of getting a flu or cold.
