Last year Nathalie met the most amazing, admirable person in the school. She is a 7th grade English and History teacher. This amazing teacher’s name is Miss Lorrin Harris. She has been teaching for 20 years and also has a wonderful story to tell us about how she became a teacher. When we asked her where she got her inspiration to teach, her response was, “ two elementary teachers I loved, Mrs. Young and Mrs. Stillman. They were my 1st and 5th grade teacher”. Miss Harris started teaching in a school in Hayward. Nathalie was in Miss Harris’s 7th grade core, where Miss Harris was known for her famous History simulations. In high school, Miss Harris had this class where she got to get out of school to go different places. One day they went to Mrs. Rosetta’s 4th grade class, which she enjoyed teaching.
Unfortunately, our beloved teacher, Ms.Harris, got diagnosed with breast cancer during the summer. Hearts shattered when the school found out. Many people wondered of how such a horrible thing could happen to such an amazing person. Due to her diagnosis, she was forced to miss the first month of school.
She was hesitant to resume her teaching career, since she thought she wasn’t herself, or good enough anymore. Though, she still moved into a portable classroom, to continue teaching. The new classroom was much smaller, she had to donate her most beloved possessions: her books. As she held each one of the 500 books in her hands, all the memories she had with all the students, came back. That’s when she realized that teaching was her passion and she couldn’t quit. “Even the bad memories with the students were the best memories” is what she said. We are extremely happy that she was able to come and teach at Fallon again. We love you Ms. Harris!
