To be a newcomer of an unfamiliar middle school can be stomach turning and nerve wracking. Being new to everything is exhausting because you have to start all over again to become comfortable and adjust to one. Not only do you become nervous, but you must fill out forms and worry about not getting lost in the ginormous school.
However, being a new pupil at Fallon Middle School isn’t such a nightmare after all. They prepare student ambassadors to guide your way around, have friendly students, and have a wall with pictures and information about them so it allows other students to become familiar with your face. A student ambassador is a person who guides you from room to room so you will not be lost around the school. How do I know this information? Because I have been in a new student’s shoes before.
In the beginning, when you first arrive at Fallon in mid year, you do not attend first period. Instead, during first period, you receive your new schedule that is printed, make an ID card, and fill out a form that is to be posted on the wall of new students.
Near the beginning of second period, a student ambassador arrives. For three or four days, (s)he will lead you into classrooms and out, so you won’t be lost during passing period. In physical education, one receives a new lock and an empty locker (the locker combination is written there). A PE teacher records your lock number and name in a computer. It will take about a few days to remember your classrooms and paths, and a few weeks to become adjust all the way and to roll with the class schedule.
A few weeks later into their arrival, a brown paper bag filled with candies and a letter comes from the Fallon Pride Team to you. With a guide and some treats, I think Fallon is a caring and focused school that wants to make sure all of its’ students feel safe and happy at school.
