Fallon, is your guard ready? Fallon Middle School’s Winter colorguard 2015-2016 is already performing!
Colorguard is a sport that interprets music during a performance via the synchronized work of flags, sabers, rifles, air blade, and of course, dance. They normally work with the marching band and drumline of their school, and there are indeed competitions.
What you might not’ve known was that Fallon has a colorguard (as well as a drumline and marching band!) The color guard already performed at Logan High in Union City and at Fallon for Family Night. Their practices take place in the MPR privately on Thursdays, training from 3:15 - 5:00 PM every week. They also spend time of their own on the weekends and after school. Fallon is incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated team!
We decided to visit the team during one of their practices and interview a few of their talented members, asking them what they personally think of the sport.
“Colorguard is a very active sport, and after all of the hard work, you get to see a wonderful piece of art in work.” Yzabelle Santulan, a 1st year performer told me.
One of the team captains, Masha Bondarenko, also commented, “I think colorguard is amazing and a great way to express your skill and artisticness. I think it’s really fun and a great way to bond with friends.”
So, if you still want to witness their beautiful work live, but haven’t been able to see any yet, here is their schedule for the 2015-2016 Winter Guard.
Saturday, 1/2/16: 9 AM - 5 PM Extended Guard Rehearsal.
Saturday, 1/9/16: All Day Guard Evaluations, Logan HS, Union City.
Friday, 1/29/16: DUSD Family Night (Wells, Fallon, DHS color guard & percussion units), 6 PM - 9 PM. No admission!
Saturday, 2/6/16: Independence HS, San Jose. (Afternoon/Evening)
Saturday, 2/20/16: Amador Valley HS, Pleasanton.
Saturday, 3/5/16: Oak Grove HS, San Jose. (Afternoon/Evening)
Saturday, 3/19/16: Fremont HS, Sunnyvale, Percussion. (Afternoon/Evening)
Saturday, 4/2/16: Independence HS, San Jose, Guard Championships.
If you’re intrigued about the art of color guard you can certainly try out either next year, or for Spring Guard!
