Did you know that the Fallon seventh grade accelerated math classes are working on a cool project? Students in Mrs. Carlson’s and Ms. Wasson’s accelerated classes are building their own model cities! With small scale buildings like service centers, restaurants, and houses, these cities will be assembled by each accelerated class in the different periods these two teachers teach.
In each class and period, students partnered up with another person. Pairs of two were assigned buildings by their city manager. Each class has a city manager who delegates building assignments, helps other students with their math, manages city progress, and determines the layout of the city. Students voted for their own city managers. Buildings had to be rectangular prisms and each pair has to build their own part of the city. People suggested ideas for buildings and will also be given amenities, or other things that aren’t buildings, to create. Details and color will be added. There’s even going to be a creative, advertising poster! Our class’s city, for example, in Mrs. Carlson’s sixth period class, is named SanFranJoDiego.
This process will take about a week. When all cities are put together on Wednesday, November 18th, they will be put on display in the library after school from 2:00 to 3:00. On this day, all staff and administrators will vote on which city they think is the best. Students can even see it after school as long as they don’t disturb the teachers voting. The class who wins will receive a party in AP after Thanksgiving Break! So accelerated students, work hard, and all staff, get ready to vote for the most fantastic model city!
